Arch style buildings, known as Quonset huts,
were so-called for the town of Quonset, Rhode Island where they
were developed by the military during World War II for quick,
easily erected, portable shelters to house soldiers and battle supplies
in remote locations throughout the world. The engineering
behind this steel building type during the war was the creation
of a cheap, easy to assemble, sturdy design that unskilled
people could quickly build. These characteristics are still what
makes the Arch style buildings one of the most popular and widely sold
steel building type today. Arch style buildings are the cost effective choice in
the steel building industry giving the owner the most versatile
bang for his buck. There are four types of Arch style metal
buildings on
the market today. Many metal building manufacturers refer
to them as the P, S, A, and Q models.
